With that said, though we’ve been detailing road jerks a lot lately, you can certainly believe that the clueless dimwits are still out there in full force…and not just at night, either. Take the airheaded lady driving this blue Mitsubishi (plate 6AFM). She clearly had no idea where she was going, but instead of pulling over to the side of the road to gather her bearings, she chose to stop in the middle of Santa Monica Blvd.–not once, but twice–where Beverly Hills meets Century City. For those of you unfamiliar with these parts, we’re talking about multi-lane roads crisscrossing each other. You need to really pay attention to lane markings, traffic signals, and signs around this area. However, if you miss your turn, just double back. What you shouldn’t do is try to freeze time, pretending that there are absolutely no other drivers behind you on these busy streets, and stop dead or crawl at a snail’s pace (I’m talking 5-10 MPH here) while you try to figure out where you’re going. On top of her erratic driving, she was making these huge sweeping wide turns before cutting over several lanes to get to where she wanted to go in the first place–without signaling of course. This lady clearly has a problem with multitasking. Listen, if you can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, then you probably shouldn’t be driving.

“So I’m driving to work east on San Vicente, aka the Beverly Hills Fwy, and this assbite in an Infiniti cuts in front of me, no signal, and then has to stop suddenly along with traffic in all the other lanes at a red light.  He then proceeds to throw his lighted cigarette butt out the window.   We proceed along for a few more blocks, and I just know that he is going to change lanes at the last minute before Pico to leapfrog past the cars in the middle lane, even though the lane he is in clearly says “left turn only.”  Sure enough, he waits til the solid white line and sticks the front of his car into the next lane with his other butt blocking my car.  I honk since I wanted to go left on Pico, so he hesitates an extra few seconds  when the light changes to make sure I don’t get the green arrow, and at the same time he holds up the people in the middle lane.  Hope this one gets COPD.”

Selfish, egotistical, apathetic, and inconsiderate.  Sounds like a classic Angeleno asswipe to me.

“I took this photo while driving south on Robertson near Burton Way.  As I was making my right onto Robertson from a side street one block north of Wilshire, this lady  in the Porsche SUV cut me off as she made a left turn from the same street, but on the opposite side.  I had the right of way, and there was absolutely no traffic, meaning she could have waited to make her turn and still made it to where she was going on time.  To add insult to injury, she just had a smug “I can do whatever I want” entitled look on her face as she did it, which really irked me.”

Of course, in this town where people are obsessed with superficial social status, you find selfish, arrogant assholes like this lady driving a Porsche.  I can’t be completely certain, but it seems like she’s driving the Porsche Cayenne base model, which is essentially the “cheapest” Porsche you can buy.  Talk about trying to cut corners….hey, bitch, if you want to be self-obsessed, why not go all out and break the bank with the Panamera Turbo?

This submission really took me by surprise and elevates the selfishness of some in this town to a whole new level:

“So it’s Saturday, almost 4 p.m., and our “residential” street in Hollywood (if you can call any street in Hollywood residential) was pretty quiet.   My husband was just coming home, driving in the same direction as you see this car is facing.  My husband had to make a left turn to enter our driveway, but he waited for a bicyclist going down our street from the other direction; he had his signal on.   This moron goes around my husband’s car to his left (!).   He almost hits the bicyclist, who runs into the curb and falls on the grass berm next to the sidewalk in his attempt to avoid the car.   The moron motorist continues up the street without stopping or even slowing down and then parks at the end of the block and nonchalantly walks across the street to a house there.  I don’t know if he lives at that house or if he is involved in the film shoot that is currently going on there for True Blood.  My husband got out of his car and checked on the bicyclist, who was shaken up, but okay.  This idiot motorist couldn’t wait the extra second it would take for my husband to make his left turn.

I saw another incident while I was running Thursday evening.  It was about 6:15 p.m at Wilshire and Crescent in Beverly Hills. Across the street from me, a young mother and her little girl, maybe 4 years old, started walking across the street when the walk light came on.  A guy in a big black SUV wanted to turn right.  He came out into the intersection, braked, but then kept advancing on the mother and child until his bumper was nearly touching them.  They did manage to get across safely.  Naturally, the SUV driver had to beat me out and I had to stop running until he finished his right turn – but he saved a millisecond!”

First, kudos to your husband for being the Good Samaritan.  Nearly mowing down a cyclist and pretending the incident didn’t happen is seriously not OK.  If anyone reading this does work on the television show True Blood and recognizes this vehicle, I strongly urge you to remind the owner that vehicular manslaughter is likely one of the fastest ways to kill his career, since stressing the value of life in general would probably do jack given that he apparently doesn’t care about anyone else but himself.

Furthermore, intimidating pedestrians in a crosswalk–especially a mother and child–with any vehicle is…wait for it…seriously not OK.  Honestly, who does that?  Buddy, are you actually telling this mother and her daughter to hurry up?  I see drivers all over L.A. cutting in front of pedestrians all the time, which according to the letter of the law is illegal, but nearly hitting them when they’re a couple of feet away crosses the ethics line.  I did see two motorcycle cops pulling over a Mustang in Beverly Hills sometime last year for nearly running over two pedestrians in a crosswalk, who managed to jump back just in time.  However, cops can only do so much; it’s up to us to reinforce safe, lawful, and courteous behavior with our friends and family.  I recently put a new link in my blogroll: Speak Up or Else.  Please take a couple of minutes to check out the site…good stuff.
