Frontier Forcing a Path Across Highland

So I’ve been making it out to my old stomping grounds a bit more often lately for appointments, meeting up with friends, running errands, etc. And boy, let me tell you, these excursions have been such strong reminders why I started this blog in the first place. Take this white Nissan Frontier pickup truck on Waring and Highland: the truck is literally sitting in the middle of Waring and Highland–right in the middle of the road, in fact. It turns out that this selfish toolbag wanted to go straight on Waring, across the busy lanes of Highland during afternoon rush hour, and thought it completely appropriate to sit across all southbound lanes on Highland and hold up traffic until it was safe to cross the northbound lanes. Creating one’s “right-of-way” is classic behavior of inept Los Angeles drivers. And you wonder why Angelenos are always stuck in traffic. You can’t even call this gridlock; rather, it’s a total roadblock. By the way, notice how the middle brake light isn’t working, which further reinforces my theory that vehicles with broken/malfunctioning lights tend to contain poor drivers.

I’m iffy on this… as a native Angeleno who has tried to navigate across a busy boulevard intersection, sometimes you have to be pro-active as no one will ever give you courtesy stop.
In this particular scenario, he could’ve gone one block north or south before trying to cut over a busy intersection unregulated by traffic signals…it would’ve been both safer and faster. I’m the school of thought of never forcing a non-existent right-of-way. If people wave you over, that’s one thing. But no one is going to stop in the middle of Highland, wait for cars in the other 2 lanes to do the same thing, and wait for you to cross–and that’s just for one direction of travel during rush hour. We all need to live with poor road layouts and should do our best to adapt, not add to the problem (and in this case, congestion).
