Audis Soon to Adopt the Reputation of Mustangs and Escalades

Idiocy Meter

Asshole Meter

BMW drivers get a bad rap in this town, but I think a lot of that is due to the fact that there are just so many of them. As a result, if someone is driving like a total ass on the road, there’s a good chance that the car is a Bimmer. However, the same can’t be said for Audi drivers; there are way fewer Audis traveling these L.A. streets than BMWs. Based solely on my personal experiences, between a 1/3 to a 1/2 of Audi drivers in L.A. drive like dicks. And I’m not talking about absentminded, idiotic, oblivious bad drivers. I’m talking about raging, arrogant, inconsiderate, egocentric assholes. Escalades and Mustangs are already on my “I hate you, get out of my face” list, and I’m pretty close to adding Audis to that list, as well. Case in point, this mobile piece of circumcised flesh was driving down Laurel Canyon and jammed his car in front of ours (without signaling) near the top of Mulholland when the #2 lane becomes a right-turn-only lane. Those of you who travel this route know that 99% of the drivers who do this aren’t committing an honest mistake. There are plenty of signs as well as very clear lane markings that indicate the right lane is about to end. In fact, you probably have a good 1/2 mile of roadway to merge over to the #1 through lane if you wish to go straight after reaching Mulholland Dr. However, without fail, you have assholes like this guy who try to leapfrog past as many cars as possible and delay traffic further by merging in at the very last moment, forcing the patient drivers who are already in the #1 through lane to brake. Now I’m not saying that you should be driving in the #1 lane from as far back as Ventura, but rather don’t try to “predict the stock market”, so to speak, to try to maximize your profits; just change over while traffic is moving so that the merging process moves as smoothly as possible. Avoidable braking is the kiss of death in rush hour traffic (e.g. lookie loos on the freeway after an accident), and the Laurel/Mulholland portion of this route is an unfortunate bottleneck of thousands of L.A. commuters. Unfortunately, this will never change, since these leapfroggers tend to think of nothing but themselves. How sad and how stereotypically L.A.
