It’s Dark and I Can’t Read My Dashboard - I Wonder Why

Idiocy Meter

Asshole Meter

The setting sun is so strong in Southern California that many drivers feel that they don’t have to turn on their headlights despite the fact that your vehicles becomes significantly more visible to other drivers especially if you are driving away from the sun. But how about at 8:30 at night in October? What excuse do you have for driving around blind in, say, a black Mercedes? This lady, who was likely a long-time L.A. resident (3 license plate), was chugging along on Ventura, minding her own business. In fact, she was so in her own world that it took three separate attempts at steadily flashing our high beams at her until she realized that she forgot to turn her headlights on; we first noticed her around Laurel Canyon, and she didn’t turn her low beams on until close to Barham (several miles). Now how dark do you think her dashboard was, given that she wasn’t even driving around with fog lights on? A few times we managed to drive up next to her and looked inside her car–it was dark, people, and I mean dark. Come on, people, let’s try to wake up behind the wheel, shall we?
On a lighter note, one of our readers was a car show on Sunday and took this photo that I thought was worth sharing:

“I was at a GM show yesterday at the Rydell Dealership in Northridge with my beautiful 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle. This is an annual fundraiser for Make-A-Wish. This Goodyear blimp was circling overhead with messages flashing across the bottom. I zoomed in and took this picture with my digital camera.
I SWEAR this picture is not touched up or Photoshopped. This is what I got when I downloaded it on my computer. Look at what it says! I’m still laughing my ass off!”
