Who in their right mind tries to pull an illegal U-turn (commercial/multi-residential homes district) at the exact moment when cars going north on Gower approaches his vehicle? This young punk with a shaved head and a baseball cap was parked along the right curb on Gower when he suddenly chose to execute a U-turn directly in front of northbound vehicles when he didn’t even have clearance due to southbound traffic. He had to be either stoned, suffering from heat stroke, or just a self-entitled piece of ferret sh*t. This happened between Sunset and Hollywood, and I am not exaggerating when I tell you that we waited for him to complete his turn for a good 30-45 seconds, along with every other car in the #1 lane. As we glared at him, this nonchalant little prat didn’t even chance an apologetic glance or a thank you wave in our direction. In fact, he appeared completely self-entitled, as if he had every right to hold up traffic while performing his illegal maneuver at the worst possible time. Yet another example of why we need to set a better example for our youth in this town, lest they grow up thinking that driving around like a carefree jackass is normal.

I feel your pain. I live in San Diego. It’s not just young people though. Here’s a ‘funny’ u-turn story for you. I’m on my motorcycle following (at a safe distance) behind a Mercedes SUV. We’re both going the speed limit. She pulls over. The road is wide enough for me to proceed now that she’s pulled off, so I do (I assume she’s parking). NO, she proceeds to pull back out almost hitting me, and ‘flips a bitch’ to accomplish a u-turn. Here’s where it gets interesting. SHE is obviously so offended, that she comes after me to tell me, “How dare you endanger MY life!”. We’ll we exchanged ‘pleasant’ words and I let her know that what she had just done was illegal. But she insisted that it was perfectly legal, “It’s called a turn around!” RIGHT?! So, I told her to “look it up, it is illegal!”. So, she closes with, “Next time you endanger my life, I’m taking you out!”. If she had been a man instead of a old woman, she would have found herself in the ER for those words. Just another case of another idiot who has no clue, but thinks they’re an authority on driving.
Frank, I hear you….this type of self-righteous ignorance is so prevalent in Southern California that it’s both embarrassing and pathetic. The sad thing is this driver probably didn’t even bother to check that her “turn around”, and the timing of that maneuver, was illegal–even if she just wanted to prove that she was right. People need to stop assuming the facts and do their research. There are too many lives at stake to not take driving seriously.
