Senior citizens get a bad rap for being bad drivers, and to a certain extent, that generalization holds some credibility, much along the same lines of why teenagers tend to be bad drivers. However, what happens when you encounter a blue hair on the road that isn’t clueless, aimlessly drifting the streets at 10 mph below the speed limit? Like it or not, as we age, our reflexes degrade, along with our senses. Purely on paper, as we get older, we need to be that much more vigilant at being safe drivers. Here’s a scary submission of someone that clearly overestimates his prowess as a driver:

“So I’m driving along 3rd St. when I notice this car closing fast on me from behind. What do I see but this old geezer with his arms above his head who could barely see over his steering wheel. This angry old man starts to tailgate me so hard that he couldn’t have been more than 5 feet behind my car….we were driving at 30 mph [see inset photo]. Apparently, even after 70+ years on this earth, rush hour and intermittent heavy traffic is a new concept to this senile garden gnome. He was so close to my rear that I saw him scowling in my rearview mirror, waving his arthritic arm in protest. At one point, he tried to pass me on my right without signaling (I know how this site hates drivers who don’t signal), nearly hitting a school bus in the process. OK, seriously, even if you’re driving a foot behind another vehicle, you should still be able to see something as large as a full-sized school bus in the neighboring lane. Eventually, he managed to pass and speed away, which is when I took this second photo. God help us all from these blind, impatient, senile old codgers with anger management issues.”

I guess old habits die hard….
